About Us

I’m Ryan — a chef by trade, a writer by instinct, and a lifelong lover of vinyl records, classic films, politics, and history. My world is a mix of sizzling pans and slow-burning ideas. I find inspiration in the rhythm of a well-scored noir scene, the pages of old biographies, and the quiet hum of a typewriter late at night. This blog is my way of giving voice to the thoughts that have lived too long in notebooks and kitchen corners.

Jamie is my muse, my co-conspirator, and the reason this blog exists. She’s a horse trainer with a soul stitched to the wild—someone who speaks fluent animal and lives with a kind of grace that only comes from working with nature. She’s also the brains behind our social media and advertising, the one who knows how to turn a whisper into a roar. Jamie’s been urging me for years to share my writing, and now, here we are.

Together, we believe in living deliberately, loving deeply, and creating something that lingers. Whether you’re here for reflections, recipes, or ravens—we’re glad you’re part of what drives us. Thank you for being part of it. And one more thing: 20% of all funds we earn through our work will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Autism Speaks. Supporting causes close to our hearts is essential for us.

Nicholas Ray's
"In A Lonely Place"

"In a Lonely Place" is a gripping film noir that delves into themes of isolation and the human psyche. Directed by Nicholas Ray and released in 1950, the story follows a troubled screenwriter, Dixon Steele, played by Humphrey Bogart, who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation. The moody cinematography and tense atmosphere capture the essence of post-war anxiety, while the performances—especially by Bogart and Gloria Grahame—are nothing short of captivating. With its intricate plot and psychological depth, this classic film serves as a profound exploration of trust and suspicion, leaving viewers questioning the nature of truth and perception long after the credits roll.

Stanley Kubrick's        "The Killing"

Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing" is a masterclass in film noir that showcases the director's early brilliance in crafting suspenseful and intricate narratives. Released in 1956, the film revolves around a meticulously planned racetrack heist, executed by a group of criminals who encounter unforeseen complications. With its non-linear storytelling, sharp dialogue, and striking cinematography, "The Killing" captivates audiences while exploring themes of betrayal, greed, and fate. Kubrick's deft direction and the film's unforgettable performances, particularly by Sterling Hayden, make it a seminal work that not only defined a genre but also paved the way for Kubrick's illustrious career in cinema.

 David Lynch's
"EraserHead"

David Lynch's "Eraserhead" is a surreal exploration of anxiety, parenthood, and the industrial landscape of America. Released in 1977, this avant-garde film follows Henry Spencer, a man grappling with the uncertainties of fatherhood after his girlfriend gives birth to a disturbing, malformed baby. With its striking black-and-white cinematography, haunting sound design, and dreamlike imagery, "Eraserhead" immerses viewers in a nightmarish world that challenges conventional storytelling. Lynch’s unique vision and masterful craftsmanship make this film a cult classic, resonating with audiences who appreciate its deep, unsettling themes and atmospheric dread.
